Chegou a dia. O Fluminense inicia hoje as quartas de final da Copa Libertadores. O time o Barcelona de Guayaquil (EQU) no Maracanã, às 21h30 (de Brasília). O tricolor vem pressionado pelas recentes atuações bem abaixo do esperado. No Brasileirão, está há três jogos sem vitória, mas conquistou as vagas na Copa do Brasil e na própria Libertadores, o que mantém ainda uma certa confiança no potencial da equipe.
Adversário da noite, o Barcelona é de um país que, apesar de deixado uma cicatriz enorme no coração dos tricolores, o Fluminense sempre se deu muito bem. Todas as vezes que enfrentaram equipes do Equador, em fases de mata-mata das competições da América do Sul, o Flu se classificou. O único time que conseguiu derrotar o clube, em dois jogos, e apenas na final, foi a LDU, nas conquistas da Libertadores de 2008 e Sulamericana em 2009, sendo que o tricolor ainda venceu duas das quatro partidas.

Em 2013, contra o Emelec, foi a única vez que o tricolor não atuou no Maracanã, que estava fechado para a Copa das Confederações e a partida se realizou em São Januário.
Além disso, o número de gols tricolor também chama a atenção. Nessas competições, atuando em seus domínios, o Fluminense tem média de 2,2 gols por jogo contra os equatorianos.
