Mesmo com a vantagem, o Fluminense foi quem pressionou e teve as melhores chances na partida. Aos 18 minutos, Kauã Elias colocou uma bola na trave. E aos 36, Gustavo Veiga abriu o placar para o Flu após ótima escapada de Kauã de Sousa pela direita.
O Fluminense foi amplamente superior durante todo o jogo, não permitindo que o Vasco permanecesse com a bola e nem chegasse próximo a sua área. Tanto que foram apenas duas finalizações dos donos da casa na partida.
