O ano era 2007. O Fluminense vinha pra sua segunda final em três anos. Na primeira ocasião acabou derrotado para o Paulista de Jundiaí, em 2005. Dois anos depois e o Fluminense teria a chance de levantar um caneco inédito em sua história. E só faltava mais um obstáculo para o tão sonhado título para preencher ainda mais a sua enorme Sala de Troféus. E quem era o adversário dessa final? O time desta noite.
E o Fluminense foi com força máxima contra o time catarinense. O tricolor não queria chegar mais uma vez na final e não sair com o título. A primeira partida foi no Maracanã. Eram mais de 60.000 tricolores apoiando a equipe comandada por Renato Gaúcho, que escalou o time com os seguintes jogadores:

O primeiro tempo começa tenso. Com o Fluminense querendo mostrar sua força. Logo no começo, Ivan recebe uma bola cara a cara com o goleiro e manda pra fora. Com 25′ Cícero cabeceia uma bola com perigo em uma cobrança de escanteio mas vai por cima do gol. Fim da primeira etapa.
O árbitro apita pro início da segunda parte. E logo no início o Figueirense assusta mas Fernando Henrique mantém o zero no placar. Com 3′ Alex Dias cabeceia em direção ao gol e o goleiro adversário faz a uma defesa no canto do gol. Aos 18′ Fernando Henrique salva mais uma vez o Flu.
Mas aos 37′ Henrique (esse mesmo, o volante que hoje veste a camisa tricolor) acertou um “pombo sem asa” no ângulo e Fernando Henrique, dessa vez, não conseguiu salvar o Fluminense. O baque foi forte para o tricolor ainda mais que o gol fora contava como critério de desempate.
Mas o gigante das Laranjeiras não se deu como vencido. Thiago Neves, que entrou na segunda etapa, recebe passe curto na cobrança de escanteio, vai até a linha de fundo e cruza para Adriano Magrão empatar a partida, faltando 2 minutos para o fim do tempo regulamentar. Explodindo a torcida tricolor presente no Maracanã. E fim da partida. O placar terminou igual: 1 x 1. O Fluminense não conseguiu fazer o dever de casa e o Figueirense saiu com a sensação de ter se aproximado mais do título.
Hora do jogo de volta e o Fluminense precisava marcar de qualquer jeito. Tinha que ser a noite do Fluminense. E o técnico Renato Gaúcho fez algumas mudanças pra sair vitorioso. A equipe foi pra campo com:

Nem o mais otimista imaginava um gol tão cedo. Era exatamente o que o tricolor queria. Mas ainda tinha mais um jogo inteiro pela frente. E foi tensão até o último minuto. O Figueirense querendo a todo custo empatar a partida, foi bola na trave, chute tirando tinta do gol, Fernando Henrique fazendo milagre e a bola não entrava.
Último lance do jogo. André Santos cruza pra área lotada de jogadores, na direção de Victor Simões. O atacante tenta dominar a bola, a zaga tenta afastar, ele tenta uma bicicleta, ele erra, a bola quica na frente de Héber Roberto Lopes que segura a bola e apita o centro do campo.
A torcida vai ao delírio. O Fluminense enfim conquistava naquela noite seu primeiro título da Copa do Brasil. E assim a gigante galeria tricolor ficou um pouco maior.
