O Fluminense desistiu oficialmente da contratação do Matheus Babi para temporada de 2021. O estafe do atleta e os representantes dos clubes envolvidos tinham uma reunião marcada para hoje, dia 05, porém foi cancelada. A diretoria Tricolor acreditou que estava sendo feito um leilão com o jogador e, por isso, não irá mais negociar a vinda do atacante.
Matheus e Fluminense já estavam acertados verbalmente na semana passada, junto do Serra Macaense, clube detentor de 100% dos direitos econômicos do atacante. A proposta Tricolor era de 1 milhão de euros por 25% dos direitos econômicos. Então, faltaria somente a negociação dos 40% dos direitos de vitrine no qual o Botafogo, time no qual o jogador está emprestado, tinha direito. A diretoria do clube tinha se interessado em alguns dos atletas de uma lista com nomes que o Flu teria mandado como disponíveis em uma possível troca de jogadores. Só que a torcida rival foi contra os nomes que foram ventilados e, então, esse modelo foi descartado.
