Nessa semana, Luisa Borges deu um passo rumo à Tóquio ao garantir vaga na dupla titular de Nado Artístico que disputará o Pré-Olímpico. E ela não foi a única tricolor: Maria Bruno, que ficou em terceiro na seletiva, ficou com a vaga reserva e Twila Cremona, que é técnica do Flu, comanda também a seleção.
Mas saiba que não é de hoje que atletas tricolores se destacam no mundo Olímpico. E mais, que Laranjeiras não é só o berço do futebol, mas de esportes olímpicos também.

O movimento olímpico brasileiro começou a se organizar em 1910, contando com o apoio de ninguém menos que Coelho Netto, membro da Academia Brasileira de Letras e ilustríssimo tricolor. Ele defendia que a promoção do futebol e de outras modalidades esportivas eram importantes pra difusão de valores morais e educativos na sociedade – a tal da função social do esporte que tanto falo.
Arnaldo Guinle, presidente do Flu de 1916 a 1931, compartilhando desse pensamento, promoveu uma série de obras na sede de Laranjeiras durante seu mandato. A principal delas, claro, a construção de um estádio de concreto, o primeiro do país, que receberia o Campeonato Sul-Americano em 1919. Junto dessa obra, foi construída a sede social, quadras de tênis e de basquete, a piscina e o estande de tiro. O Flu tornou-se instituição-modelo ao possuir a melhor praça de esportes da cidade, chamando atenção inclusive no exterior.
Em 1919 houve a inauguração do Estádio e, meses depois, do estande de tiro, onde começaram a treinar dois atletas que fariam história no ano seguinte: Afrânio Costa e Guilherme Paraense que, nas Olimpíadas de 1920, na Antuérpia, ganhariam as primeiras medalhas olímpicas do Brasil. O primeiro trouxe uma prata e um bronze pra casa, na pistola de tiro livre individual e por equipes, respectivamente; o segundo tratou de trazer um ouro no tiro de pistola rápida 30m.
E se vocês acharam que eles treinaram no Fluminense por conveniência, ledo engano: Afrânio, assim como diversos ídolos do futebol, era louco pelas três cores que fez, com as próprias mãos, traduzirem tradição. Fez questão que seu acervo fosse doado ao clube, de maneira que suas medalhas e pistolas usadas na competição ficassem expostas na Sala de Troféus. Cristina Balthazar, sobrinha neta dele, disse:
Ele era um torcedor apaixonado, sempre dizia que fez tudo pelo Fluminense e que o troféu era do clube. O Fluminense pode se orgulhar de ter a primeira medalha olímpica do Brasil porque, pelo que ele dizia, as medalhas eram do Fluminense e não dele.
Em 1922, centenário da independência do Brasil, cabia ao país realizar os Jogos Olímpicos Latino-Americanos (precursor do Pan-Americano). Como o plano do governo com o clube de regatas não saiu do papel, recorreram à nós. O Fluminense, então, assume a responsabilidade e promove outra série de reformas. Inicialmente, o clube faria somente a organização do torneio, mas acabou arcando também com o custo dos investimentos após um impasse com o governo – ou seja, fizemos absolutamente tudo. O campeonato chegou a receber 160 mil pessoas e foi palco de um momento muito emocionante: a medalha de ouro do basquete masculino, cujo time contava com 5 atletas tricolores.
Por quase 30 anos o Fluminense buscou o reconhecimento do Comitê Olímpico Internacional. Em 1924, enviou um dossiê com inúmeros documentos sobre a realização do evento e a contribuição do clube para o esporte. Em 1936, outra tentativa foi negada pelo COI. E esse esforço foi reconhecido só em 1949, quando recebemos a Taça Olímpica (ou Coupe Olympique para os poliglotas), considerada o Prêmio Nobel do Esporte. Somos o único clube da América Latina e o único de futebol do mundo a receber a honraria.
Na nossa Sala de Troféus você encontra a réplica da Taça enviada pelo COI.
Somos enormes além das quatro linhas. O Fluminense é gigante.
