Com gols de Kayky, Fred, Nenê e Ganso o Fluminense goleou o Macaé pela 8ª rodada do Carioca, no Estádio Raulino de Oliveira. Com a vitória, o Tricolor voltou ao G4 da competição, chegando ao quarto lugar, com 13 pontos na tabela. Após o apito final, o treinador Roger Machado concedeu uma entrevista coletiva e falou sobre a partida.
O comandante do Flu começou com uma análise do jogo, falando sobre o aproveitamento e atuação de Kayky, estreante da noite como titular e autor do primeiro gol da goleada:

“Eu falei com os atletas no final do jogo que mais que o resultado foi o que nos produzimos. Não só no ponto de vista ofensivo, mas pelo fato ao todo da gente ter feito uma partida segura. Mesmo quando o adversário em alguns momentos teve a bola, a gente conseguiu impedir que o adversário pudesse gerar consequências no nosso sistema defensivo. Eu acho que o placar foi compatível com atuação, ele foi construído em dois tempos distintos. No primeiro tempo que foi um placar mínimo e no segundo a gente conseguiu um 3 x 0. Em relação ao Kayky, a ideia que a gente tinha era justamente proporcionar o jogador que dentro de campo tem jogado aberto, tem um contra um forte, é insinuante nos dribles, mas também quando está atrás das linhas consegue ser um jogador que corra com a bola num espaço onde tem muito congestionamento. Eu acho que ele aproveitou bem a oportunidade. Que bom ver os meninos podendo jogar e contribuir com uma vitória importante.”
Na sequência, o treinador comentou sobre o restante da competição, que se aproxima do final do primeiro turno (Taça Guanabara). Eu não gostaria de ter como um apontamento o campeonato de uma forma pejorativa. Mas de fato é uma oportunidade que a gente de ver os jogadores em campo em jogos mais pesados, jogadores jovens que podem nos ajudar. Martins já foi ao banco, Jefté ainda não foi ao banco mas treinou essa semana bastante com o elenco. Quando tiver oportunidade e o jogo permitir, não tenha dúvida que eu vou querer utilizar os garotos. Mas a outra via é amadurecer o time para as finais do campeonato e para a Libertadores.”
O treinador ainda comentou sobre a importância de Fred, dentro e fora das quatro linhas, e as ausências de Miguel e Michel Araújo no jogo:
“O Fred é um jogador que dispensa comentários. Os quase 400 gols é o cartão de visita do Fred. Eu sempre vou formatar meus times como características para alimentar o centroavante, mas não só de cruzamentos laterais. Eu entendo como jogador completo, como Fred é, tenha condição de fazer gols como esse de infiltração. Ele vive uma grande fase e a experiência dele vai ajudar a gente no restante na temporada, principalmente na Libertadores. Sobre Miguel e Araújo, são as opções para esse jogo. O Miguel ainda não teve oportunidade de ir comigo ao banco, vem treinando diariamente e fez os jogos no início, teve problemas, recuperou e vem trabalhando. Quando o treinador entender que o atleta deva fazer parte de um banco, não tenha dúvida que vou querer observá-lo em campo. Em relação ao Michel, a mesma questão. Outro ponto abordado foi o posicionamento mais ofensivo de Ganso, que sob seu comando vem atuando mais próximo da área, como um segundo atacante ou ainda um falso 9. Para o treinador, o camisa 10 tricolor deve se aproximar mais dos atacantes, articulando as jogadas e chegando dentro da área para definir:
“A característica que eu vejo para ele é essa posição atrás do centroavante e eu sempre trabalho buscando esse posicionamento para o meu atleta que joga logo abaixo do ‘camisa 9’. Não é um armador articular, é um meia atacante e, hoje, o Paulo (Ganso) entrou nessa posição. Ou seja, quando ele ou Nenê não estão articulando as jogadas, eles têm que estar perto ou dentro da área para concluir. Teve apenas um jogo no Estadual que eu usei o Paulo como um ‘falso 9’, pelos os motivos que eu tinha naquele momento, para voltar a despertar no Paulo o desejo de estar perto da área e balançar as redes assim como ele fez hoje. Então, a característica dessa função demanda, na minha opinião e nas equipes que eu costumo construir, uma postura um pouco diferente desse jogador que joga com a ‘camisa 10’. Ele é muito mais um meia atacante do que um meia articulador e, sempre quando puder, eu vou utilizá-lo dessa forma: Ora, articulando as jogadas, ora, finalizando dentro da área.”
Por fim, Roger comentou sobre o desempenho físico de Nenê, Fred e Ganso:
“Ás vezes, quando você tenta contextualizar depois de um mal resultado e o início da temporada, pode soar como um discurso de desculpa da derrota. Mas quando a gente contextualiza desde os primeiros jogos, nós fomos o time que mais utilizou jogadores e em um contexto completamente distinto do que a gente está acostumado. Eu tive quatro dias para treinar o time para uma pré-Libertadores, que não aconteceu devido o título do Palmeiras. Os treinos desses jogadores foram interrompidos, eles ganharam dez dias de recesso, enquanto isso dois jogos foram feitos pelo sub-23, três jogos com um misto entre o sub-23 com alguns que não tiveram seu descanso para nos ajudar a retomar no Campeonato Estadual e esse foi o terceiro jogo com os jogadores que terminaram o ano (como titulares) no Campeonato Brasileiro. Então, foram dez dias de recesso e mais dez dias de treinamento, somando dias, então é natural, no começo, sentir um pouco da parte física. Mas, no jogo de hoje, eu não vi essa baixa demanda física dos jogadores, em especial, dos jogadores mais velhos. Mas é natural que quando haja problema em campo, por um erro técnico, uma lentidão durante uma parte do jogo, possa ser interpretado como uma parte física. Fisicamente não há nada, há o ritmo de um começo de ano que a gente não sabe nem se acabou e, o impacto disso na temporada, todos nós vamos ter que lidar com. O que eu falava para os jogadores e para a comissão técnica era que os dez dias de recesso eram mais importantes do ponto de vista emocional do que propriamente físico. O ano quase que não acabou de uma temporada para a outra.”
